I bought several of your feeders and they were a big hit! Our Caique and Cockatoo vocalize every time they see us doing anything with the feeders. Placing an ear of corn into the large feeder provides the birds with fun times while we are away at work, I can see where she has had to move it around to try and gain access to more of the corn. Thanks for the ideas on your blog, keep the information coming.

FAQ

1. How do you sterilize the pine straw?

Sorry, trade secret. We use the same process that our local zoo uses to sanitize all substrate that goes into their animal's enclosures.

2. Are the PVC feeders dishwasher safe?

Yes, we recommend using a lower heat setting if your dishwasher has one. Don't use a sanitize cycle or the heat dry cycle. Some wear of the product may occur over time from repeated dishwasher use.

3. How do I clean the bamboo feeder-toys?

We recommend only wiping them with a damp cloth. Completely soaking either feeder-toy can promote the growth of mold. For this reason we recommend only using dry goods that will not soil or dampen the interior of the feeder-toy.

4. Are the bamboo feeder-toys sterilized?

Yes. They are free of insects, mold and bacteria. We cut fresh bamboo and have it wood kiln dried for 8-10 days. This removes all moisture. It will also kill any bugs.

5. Is your hardware stainless steel?

Yes, only the best for your companion parrot. Save the hardware for a discount on replacement toys. We also offer both 1 -inch and 2 -inch washers and bolts depending on the space between the bars of your companion parrot's cage.

6. Why would I want to use a tray on the bottom of my birds’ cage to promote foraging?

Many species of birds forage on the ground in the wild. African Grey Parrots and Cocktiels are two types that spend a lot of time on the ground! By providing your parrot with a safe place to forage your are encouraging a behavior that they are already inclined to want to do. It makes things more natural and more interesting. You can place your parrot or cockatiels pellet or seed mix into the tray and they will eat their whole meal by foraging through the materials in the tray to look for the food. This allows for a much more natural and stimulating way for your parrot to eat it’s plain old pellets!

7. What if my bird won’t forage?

All birds are leary of new items placed in their cage. Try to be patient. You can try filling the feeder-toy or foraging tray with your pets favorite food item or treat. We would recommend not using the stuffing in the foraging tray at first and just put the food or treat items in the tray by themselves. This way your bird can identify what is in there. Once your pet gets the hang of it you can mix it up by using stuffing or shredded paper. The same would be true for the foraging feeder-toys. Keep stuffing or filler to a minimum and stuff the feeder-toy with your bird’s favorite food. Your parrot won’t be able to resist for long!
